C & R Eames: Lounge Chair Assembly



Everyone knows I totally have a boner for this chair, right? I just watched this video three times.

  1. Don't tell anyone I told you this -

    The Eames got their start with money from the American war machine (in fifth gear for WWII). You know that already. But you have to find the precedents for the materials they were using. Who used plywood for aircraft? What was sheet steel used for on the war?

    The Eames' work was a series of essays on the possibilities of different materials. Plywood was shitboard until the Eames came along. Their molded ply chairs are still some of the best designs out there (particularly C2). Who started molding plywood? Why?

    Answer these questions and you will be on a tack that will prove useful.
